Often, you must have heard the phrase ‘you are what you eat.’ Be it your skin or your body, everything that you eat affects you in some way or the other. The vagina is no exception to this rule.

Yes! What you eat does affect the pH balance of your vagina. Vaginas have a naturally acidic pH level and they are home to a host of healthy bacteria. This bacteria keeps the vagina clean and protects it from infections.

How does Food affect the Vagina?

The food that you eat, has an impact on the pH level of the vagina. It can even change the way your vagina smells. However, there is no need to worry. The effect of the consumed food on the vagina lasts only for 2-3 days.

Spices, onions, garlic, red meat, dairy products, asparagus, broccoli and alcohol can affect the natural balance of the vagina. Fruits and fruit juices can make your vagina smell sweet.

What Foods should you have to keep the Vagina Healthy?

Gynaecologists recommend following a diet that is rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The diet should also include lots of water.

Greek yogurt is very beneficial for the vagina as well. Yogurt that contains live and active cultures are probiotics that may help the vagina in maintaining a healthy, acidic pH balance.

What Food may be Harmful for Vaginal Health?

For the sake of your vagina, you should cut back on your sugar. Women who have uncontrolled high blood sugar due to diabetes, may be more susceptible to contracting a yeast infection in the vagina.

To ensure the health of your vagina, keep these points in mind.
