God bless small town Texas! I don’t feel like I’m a big city girl until I leave and discover the quaintness of a quality small town. Georgetown — 35 minutes outside of downtown Austin — is the perfect, accessible small town for a weekend getaway.
Here’s everything you need to do in a weekend in the cutest little town in central Texas!
Walk around Blue Hole
This might be my rose of the whole trip. The cute little swimming hole branches off the river and provides a cool natural pool and park — a favorite of college kids and families alike. Even if it’s too cold to hop in, you gotta go walk around. If it is warm, jump on in or tan on the banks. I loved the little concrete walkway that the water flows over.
Add a detour to walk around the Southwestern campus. It’s the cutest little college campus!
Brunch at Sweet Lemon Inn
Right off the square, Sweet Lemon is a must visit on a Saturday morning for mimosas, coffee and yummy bites. It’s a bakery, too, so obviously we got a lemon bar. So freaking good. PSA. It’s counter service so it’s pretty quick service! Or you can hang out and read or study like a coffee shop.
Treat yo’self at Spa Luxe
This brand new spa is such an asset to the town! You can really go all out here — massage, facial, the works. When you walk in, you immediately get the most comfy plush robe to hang out in — immediate relaxation. We went for a pedicure — 85 minutes of perfection. The spa uses these little collagen socks that are such a game changer. Think like a paraffin wax bag but higher tech. The tip rips off so they can do your nails while your feet continue soaking! The infrared sauna in the women’s changing room is another huge perk at the spa!
Cheers at Rentsch Brewery
Rentsch beers are EVERYWHERE in town. The hometown brewer is located just 10 minutes from the town square and is a fun spot for parties, game watches or just a beer with some friends. Totally kid and dog friendly too.
Dinner at El Monumento
Obsessed with this little Tex-Mex place. It feels fancy with reasonable prices. You gotta start with a prickly pear marg and queso – it has a kick to it! You can’t go wrong with anything else on the menu. The asada dishes are basically just fajitas, or there are three yum types of enchiladas. If you don’t wrap up the night with tres leches you’re doing it wrong.
PSA, no reservations and it’ll be busy on a Saturday night, but you can grab a seat at the bar or a counter spot by the kitchen with no wait!
Visit the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas
Georgetown’s calling card is definitely their town square. It’s deemed the most beautiful in Texas! You gotta go — especially if there’s an event. We went to the Christmas Stroll — lights, shopping and drinks all abound! Think: White Linen Night meets Nutcracker Market BUT waaaay fewer people. #SmallTownPerks
Check the schedule to see what’s going on and at the very least you can walk and shop around the stores that are there year round. A huge bonus to this small town is NO OPEN CONTAINER LAWS! You can walk around with a beer or a glass of wine in the square. How cool is that!
Stay at the Sheraton
My home away from home was the gorgeous new(ish) Sheraton. It’s a great location — 5 minutes from everywhere, and is got the most gorgeous pool and yummiest restaurant, Brix and Ale. The hotel is so nice — and is only two years old (which might be why it smells like soap! Seriously! Love it.) My absolute favorite moment at the Sheraton was sipping fall-inspired drinks by the fire! Butterbeer, apple cider tequila cocktail and a horchata sipper — all better than anything I could have expected.
The hotel is so close to everything but not super walkable. HOWEVER. Georgetown has a partnership with Lyft to provide $2 flat rate rides…. how cool is that? Use the code “gtown18” to get the deal. We Lyfted everywhere for practically nothing!
I’m so thankful for this incredible trip — Georgetown, I’ll be back soon!
